Photovoltaic (PV) Systems

Russell and Sun Solar is proud to be a leader in the solar industry. Our FSEC-approved and UL-listed photovoltaic (PV) systems are part of this leadership. Our commercial and residential systems may be right for you, your family, or your business. Russell and Sun Solar can help connect you with the leading edge of sustainable energy.

Advantages of Russell & Sun Solar PV systems:

  • Reduced dependence on your utility company
  • Dramatically reduce or eliminate your power bill
  • Safeguard yourself and your family from perpetually increasing utility rates
  • Reduce your carbon footprint
  • Improve your marketing position or change your public perception by "Going Green!"
  • Capitalize on currently available Federal tax credits and accelerated depreciation
  • Capitalize on the most widely available renewable energy source there is - the Sun! No noise, zero pollution, reliable power for decades, even the materials your system is made of comes from one of the most plentiful resources on earth - silicon
  • Feel good about doing your part to reduce our dependence on foreign oil, heavily polluting coal, or expensive natural gas.
  • You can look forward to getting your electric bill!  (We have customers that have "utility bill parties" to celebrate their low utility bills!)

Photovoltaic technology is among the most exciting green, renewable technology available. As energy prices increase, more and more families and businesses have recognized the need for a more sustainable energy source. In response to this growing recognition, Solar energy demand has grown by 20-25% per year for the last 20 years, and the cost has been dropping! This decline is the result of several factors:

a) increasing efficiency of solar cells,

b) improvements in manufacturing technology, and

c) economies of scale.

Typical turn-key grid-tie installations currently cost approximately $4.00-6.50 per watt DC, before rebates, incentives and credits which will cut the installed costs significantly - up to 100%! Residential PV systems typically are 2000W - 10,000W in DC power rating. Commercial photovoltaic systems range anywhere from 2000W to utility-scale megawatt Solar farms. Again, the Federal government allows a 30% tax credit for eligible solar systems. Also, through December 2010, for commercial installations, the tax credit may be taken as a grant - you will get your 30% back within 60 days!  For these reasons, solar has become affordable for many residential customers and a very good financial decision for most businesses.

Because every house is different and every person's needs are different, we believe in designing each system for our customer's specific needs. You will not see any "kits" on our web site!  We will work with you to design a photovoltaic system that meets your needs for the lowest possible cost. Below are several of our trusted brands:

SMA inverters - SMA is the largest manufacturer of solar inverters in the world.  Their inverters are reliable, attractive, efficient, and tough.

SolarWorld - the largest manufacturer of solar modules in the US.  These modules are arguably the best in the industry.

Sharp Solar - largest distributor of solar modules in the US.  We have installed tons of these and they always perform well.

UniRac mounting solutions - the industry standard for traditional mounting.  SolarMount is very strong, flexible, and works for virtually all installations.

MageSolar - these modules are efficient, very strong, have the best warranty in the industry, and the highest power tolerances.  We like them.

Others inverter and charge controller brands we have installed:

PVP

Selectria

Fronius

Xantrex

Morningstar

GE

Other solar module manufacturers we have installed:
Kyocera

Evergreen

BP

PowerUp

UniSolar (thin film)

Kaneka

Mitsubishi

Ninghbo

If you have a preference in solar modules, mounting, or inverters, ask us about it.  Chances are we have experience with them!  We will work with you to design the system you wnat for your home.
We are trained and certified to install UniSolar photovoltaic modules for those applications where a low profile, thin-film amorphous flexible solar module is best.  We have experience with 1200W residential PV through 30kW commercial systems.

How much savings can I expect from my PV system?  Here is a good formula for determining the output of your solar array:

DC watts x 85% overall efficiency factor (inverter, wire losses, module mismatch, deviations from STC, etc.) = AC output.
AC output x insolation (for Melbourne expect 4.75 hours per day annual average) = Watt-hours generated per day. (Wh / 1000 = kWh.)

For example, you can expect a 5250W DC PV system to produce this much power:
5250W x 4.75 hrs / 1000 = 24.93 kWh DC per day
24.93 kWh DC x 85% = 21.2 kWh AC per day
X 365 days per year = 7742 kWh AC per year
/ 12 = 645 kWh AC per month.  You can determine your savings by simply mulitplying your kWh x $/kWh.

In fact, our systems routinely perform 5-10% better than teh industry standard!
Check your electric bill to see how much of your bill we can offset.
