of 30% of the installed cost...
and a Florida energy REBATE of $500
Let's face it: electric rates are not going down. In fact, the energy market is one of the volatile in the world. With our utility companies constantly raising our electric rates, you may be asking yourself, “what can I do to reduce my utility bills?” The good news is... you can lower your electric bill by up to 30% or more by installing a solar water heating system in your home.
The news gets even better... right now, if you purchase a solar water heating system, you will receive a federal tax credit of 30% of the installed cost of your solar system - any solar water heating system - with no cap! This means that for an average family of four, the system will completely pay for itself in about three years....after that, you get to "pocket" the savings for the next 20+ years. That is better than a 30% annual return on your money, SOLAR IS A GREAT INVESTMENT!
The Law:
ENERGY POLICY ACT OF 2005 (H.R.6)
This energy act established a 30% tax credit, with no cap, for the purchase and installation of residential solar water heating systems or photovoltaic systems. These systems must be certified and approved by the Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC). Look ours up:

Furthermore, according to Florida law, (The Solar Energy Standards Act) mandates that all solar water heating systems installed in the state of Florida must be approved by (FSEC) and installed by a licensed Solar Contractor. This means that if you purchase a system that is not approved by FSEC, or if you purchase a system from someone other than a licensed Solar Contractor, your system will not be eligible for the 30% federal tax credit.
This tax credit has been extended though 2016.
FLORIDA ENERGY BILL CS/CS/CS/SB 888
This energy bill establishes a rebate for the installation of solar energy equipment. For solar water heating the rebate is set at $500 per residence. This energy bill actually offers a rebate for solar pool heating equipment...$100 per system. In addition to this, the bill offers a rebate of $4 per watt for photovoltaic installation up to $20,000 and sometimes more! The bill also requires that the systems installed must be approved by the Florida Solar Energy Center and installed by a licensed Solar Contractor. The bill went into effect on July 1, 2006 and is funded through June 30, 2010.
